Our Campuses

Dunedin campus

The University of Otago main campus is located in the centre of Dunedin. A city offering the best of both worlds, Dunedin has the facilities, entertainment and variety of larger cities, while offering a friendly, uncrowded, safe environment more typical of smaller towns.

Known throughout New Zealand as ‘the university city’, Dunedin is home to the majority of the University’s schools and departments.

Auckland campus

The Auckland Centre is the focal point of the University’s Auckland presence, providing a resource and information centre for current and prospective Otago students.

The Auckland Centre hosts a range of Distance Learning courses, a selection of Summer School papers in January/February, an annual public Winter Lecture series, as well as general information sessions throughout the year.

Home to the Schools’ Liaison Service, the Auckland Centre is the base for the University’s northern presence, providing support and advice to prospective and returning students, as well as access to the library database and computer network.

Wellington campus

Located within close proximity to the regional hospital, the University of Otago, Wellington campus is part of the Health Sciences Division. The Wellington campus teaches undergraduate medicine, radiation therapy, postgraduate qualifications and papers, as well as undertaking a wide variety of health-based research.

The Wellington campus has a strong research ethic in a number of areas, including biomedical, clinical and public health.

The campus’s Māori health research unit, Te Ropu Rangahau Hauora A Eru Pōmare, is a national leader in its field. The relationship the research unit has with local iwi groups provides a strong foundation for building the indigenous component of the curriculum

Christchurch campus

The University of Otago, Christchurch campus focuses on the teaching of undergraduate medical students, postgraduate health science students and postgraduate research students. Postgraduate health science students are mainly made up of nurses undertaking postgraduate study.

The University collaborates closely with the Canterbury District Health Board, the region’s hospitals, general practitioners and other health and community agencies.

Invercargill campus

The University of Otago, Invercargill comprises the College of Education and the Health Sciences Southland Study Hub.

The University of Otago College of Education has a campus on Nelson Street, providing a range of teacher education programmes in Early Childhood, Primary, Primary Bilingual, and Secondary.

The Division of Health Sciences also has a presence, at the Southland Hospital campus. The Health Sciences Southland Study Hub supports students and staff based at Southland Hospital in Invercargill, from multiple Health Sciences disciplines.
