Flexible working arrangements
We recognise the importance of a healthy workâlife balance, and have a range of work place options to assist staff in managing this.
Staff are able to request flexible working arrangements for personal and/or academic / professional reasons. A request may cover the hours or days of work, the place of work, or some other working arrangement.

Study assistance
The professional development of our staff is important to us here at the University, and study assistance may be available to you. Study assistance may be a fees subsidy, and/or time to attend classes for staff who wish to study both internally and externally. Distance learning is a further option for staff who may wish to study around their work commitments.

Library
The University Library system consists of six separate libraries in Dunedin, as well as others on the Wellington, Christchurch and Invercargill campuses. Visit the website here.
Some things worth knowing:
- No fines for staff.
- Online catalogue of books and journals, (including popular titles, such as The Economist, Consumer NZ, etc.).
- Hundreds of databases with millions of journal articles.
- Free interloans from other NZ libraries.
- eTV – Log in to access to hundreds of TV shows, films, etc. (Begin login with your Uni address and you will be redirected to SSO.)

You are welcome to join a union:
- Tertiary Education Union (TEU) is available to all staff,
- Public Service Association (PSA)is available to professional staff,
- Amalgamated Workers’ Union of NZ Southern is available to trade staff, or
- E tu Incorporated Limited is available to trade and service staff.

You can get a 10% discount at the pharmacy inside the hospital with your ID card.
University of Otago staff can receive discounts from ALL New Zealand Bunnings. Discounts are offered in relation to products being purchased and relate directly to the supplier’s margin.

Gym membership discount is available at Koha Fit.
There are also travel discounts.
